University of Lagos State (UNILAG) Reinstates Prof. Ogundipe As Vice-Chancellor

The Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Education, Ben-Bem Goong, has disclosed that Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has been reinstated as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).  He made this disclosure on Wednesday through a statement titled, ‘Re: Report of special visitation panel to UNILAG’.

The report by the visitation panel who handled the issue revealed that Professor Ogundipe was not removed via the due process as Vice-Chancellor and that he was not granted a fair hearing to defend himself on the allegations labeled against him.

The recommendation of the panel is therefore that Prof. Ogundipe is reinstated as the vice-chancellor and all allegations made against him and the management of the University before and after the Constitution of the Special Visitation Panel should be referred to the regular Visitation Panel for a thorough investigation and necessary recommendations.

Furthermore, the panel questioned the process adopted by the Governing Council chaired by Dr. B. O. Babalakin in the appointment of Professor Omololu Soyombo as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University. They held that it was inconsistent with the provisions of the Law relating to the appointment of an Acting Vice-Chancellor and thereby recommended the dissolution of the governing council.
