CHAPTER 1 SUMMARY OF LIFE CHANGER BY KHADIJA ABUBAKAR JALLI

Bint, the youngest daughter(5 years of age) happens to be narrating her experience in school with her meddlesome Social studies teacher Mallam Salihu A.K.A I know a little  about every subject.

The narration was about how she answered Mallam Salihu question(what is good morning in french) right in french when nobody in the class knew  it, then she fired back her own question which Mallam salihu couldn’t answer until he got help from a senior french teacher. This made Bint an Icon in the eyes of her fellow students as they laughed and clapped going around her.

Ummi(who was formally a teacher ,although she never sought to say) , barged in the room and joined the conservation. She was mainly of the fact that It was wrong to push a teacher beyond his limit and the teacher was an honest and humble one .So it was better for the teacher to call someone else than to give the pupil wrong answer.but ,bint did’t agree to her saying the teacher claims he knows too much. the intensity of their chat got the conversation Animated.

A knock was heard on the door , It was Omar, Ummi’s first son, bint’s favorite.he left the house early in the morning dressed in white shirt and jean.He just gained admission to study Study Law at the Kongo Campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The mom was very happy about the admission and also considering the fact that Omar’s dad had the dream to study Law but didn’t work out. Ummi then told Omar that Admission is THE LIFE CHANGER. That is where the name of the Novel The Life changer by Khadija Abubakar Jalli was gotten.

Teemah the second child and jamilia the third teased Omar when he demanded he be called learned brother except bint who he said was an exception and she could call him whatever she likes. It’s safe to say teemah and omar argue over everything.

Everybody was at this point was waiting for their father who closes around 5 o’clock in the evening.

Omar particularly told his mum and his sisters not to tell his Dad about his admission status as he personally wanted to tell him.It appears that among the kids in the family, no one ever used a smartphone, only torchlight phones so, this was going to be an opportunity for Omar to be a smartphone user which got teemah talking and was the reason Omar said”jealousy and envy was the reason she couldn’t grow tall”.

The room was getting hot and stuffy due to the fact that the generator was faulty and there was no NEPA for two days. Ummi and her children went outside to feel fresh air where, bint and jamilia cleaned the white chairs. Bint told ummi she wanted to drink zobo which big brother omar accepted to pay the bills only to be turned down by teemah who claimed omar was fund of not paying for the zobos he collected.finally, ummi decided she was going to pay. (Note:Teemah sells zobo)

Omar talked about his experiences writing his examinations scoring 230/400,how there’s always a silver lining in the cloud, the essence of a smartphone, the thrill he got after finding out his name was among the few who got an admission, the fact that he read and prayed while some looked for miracle centers and how he was part of the intelligentsia.
